Initially established in Tashkent under the resolution of the Uzbek government on the formation of the "Editorial Board of the Uzbek Soviet Encyclopedia" (January 18, 1968), under the name of the Soviet Uzbek Encyclopedia initially formed in 1965 within the Uzbek FA Language and Literature Institute. From 1990 to 1997, it operated under the name "Chief editorial office of dictionaries."
